Adopt Blackie, a senior beagle in Bergen Co. Animal Shelter NJ

This incredibly sweet boy came back to us because his owners realized he may have separation anxiety. Like most scent hounds, beagles can be quite vocal when left alone, which can be misconstrued as separation anxiety. We obviously do not know how he might react in a home environment, but we do ask adopters to take a chance because he might not exhibit this behavior after all. At 9 years old, Blackie still has tons of energy for a dog his age, and will still need plenty of exercise, especially to lose some of his excess weight. Walks come highly recommended so he can not only get the physical requirements, but so he can also form a stronger bond with his handler. All he needs is that extra love and affection. And at his age, although we'd be happy to give that to him, we'd rather see him in a loving home than in the confines of our shelter. He can be quite vocal here, so apartments or condos may not be suitable. We suggest positive crate training during the adjustment period. This sometimes alleviates some stress new dogs may feel. This golden oldie is basically an all around good dog and is simply looking for a life-long pal to curl up next to on those cold, lonely nights. If you can give this cute boy the second chance he deserves, please stop by the Bergen County Animal Shelter to meet him. The shelter is located at 100 United Lane, Teterboro, NJ, near Routes 17 & 46 in the meadowlands area of northern NJ and they are open 7 afternoons per week for adoptions, until 8 PM on Thursdays. Rescues, please visit the shelter's website at http://www.co.bergen.nj.us/bcas/rescue.html to read their rescue policies before contacting the shelter. Blackie's shelter ID is 84723. For more information, contact Alice at AliceAKrieger@aol.com or Doris atPupkit3@aol.com. Vet references will be required.

Adopt Peanut adorable 3 year old beagle in MA

This 3 year old beagle was pretty much dumped on caretaker who is trying to get him adopted. His name is Peanut and you can see he is overweight and we are working on a diet and exercise now. He doesn't like being crated or even in a pen but got over it by this morning. He is fine with other dogs/cats.. he lived with cats too. He seems to like my family room and has taken post on the couch. I will be getting his records Monday or Tuesday. He seems submissive around people, I was told he is a barker but now that he is free to roam my house I haven't heard a peep out of him. please email me, Shelly if you are interested in adoption. the email is schnzlove@comcast.net

Senior Beagle Annie needs her first forever home!

Annie: Beagle, Dog; Budd Lake, NJAnnie: Beagle, Dog; Budd Lake, NJ

Annie has never had a real family before. She was born and has lived the past 10 years at the same home but she has been chained outside with only a little bit of shelter and the birds and butterflies for companionship.
Until now, Annie was never taken to a vet, never allowed to come inside out of the rain or snow, and was never given any medication as her little body started to get achy and sore from age. Annie has had countless litters of puppies with neighborhood stray dogs, and eventually the home had become so overcrowded with her offspring and their offspring that Annie was viewed as the weak one of the pack. She was attacked repeatedly and bullied out of her dog house. No way for any dog to live.
For those of you who LOVE animals, it must break your heart to think about this precious, gentle little old girl standing out in the rain, snow, and punishing heat for TEN YEARS, just waiting for a hero.
Finally, Annies owners surrendered her because they were afraid that the other dogs were going to kill her. Annie slept for DAYS after her arrival in the safe haven of a Kentucky shelter and they could clearly see the relief and appreciation in her eyes when she was given unlimited food and a soft bed that she didnt have to share with anyone.
We believe that Annies nightmare is now over, but her story hasnt ended yet.
Annie needs a hero. Someone very special who will open their heart and their home to her for the remaining time she has left in this world.
Annie has been spayed (imagine!! In her golden years going through a surgery like that!). She is now up to date on dhlpp, bordatella, she has had her rabies shot, she has been dewormed, she is heartworm negative and she now is the proud owner of a microchip.
We have some small hurdles to overcome with little Annie. She needs to learn some basic commands, needs help with housetraining and she needs to find a wonderful home where she will finally be spoiled. She has suffered for so long at the hands of people with little heart if you have ever wanted to make a difference to a dog, this is your chance. Annies been waiting her entire life for someone to love her. Please, please, dont let her life have been in vain. Give Annie the home she so deserves before its too late. For more information on how to adopt Annie, please email brl@beaglerescueleague.org or visit the site at www.petfinder.com/shelters/PA771.html
