Adopt Blackie, a senior beagle in Bergen Co. Animal Shelter NJ

This incredibly sweet boy came back to us because his owners realized he may have separation anxiety. Like most scent hounds, beagles can be quite vocal when left alone, which can be misconstrued as separation anxiety. We obviously do not know how he might react in a home environment, but we do ask adopters to take a chance because he might not exhibit this behavior after all. At 9 years old, Blackie still has tons of energy for a dog his age, and will still need plenty of exercise, especially to lose some of his excess weight. Walks come highly recommended so he can not only get the physical requirements, but so he can also form a stronger bond with his handler. All he needs is that extra love and affection. And at his age, although we'd be happy to give that to him, we'd rather see him in a loving home than in the confines of our shelter. He can be quite vocal here, so apartments or condos may not be suitable. We suggest positive crate training during the adjustment period. This sometimes alleviates some stress new dogs may feel. This golden oldie is basically an all around good dog and is simply looking for a life-long pal to curl up next to on those cold, lonely nights. If you can give this cute boy the second chance he deserves, please stop by the Bergen County Animal Shelter to meet him. The shelter is located at 100 United Lane, Teterboro, NJ, near Routes 17 & 46 in the meadowlands area of northern NJ and they are open 7 afternoons per week for adoptions, until 8 PM on Thursdays. Rescues, please visit the shelter's website at http://www.co.bergen.nj.us/bcas/rescue.html to read their rescue policies before contacting the shelter. Blackie's shelter ID is 84723.
